PRACTICAL USE, EXPANDABILITY

Various communication functions (Serial, IrDA, Bluetooth and Wireless LAN)

GT-1 series is equipped with multi communication capabilities, in addition to serial/USB interface, an IrDA port, and Bluetooth are available.
IrDA port is used not only for regular communications with other IrDA peripherals but also for the optional OC-4L Optical communication unit which permits to transfer files to GT-1 series over the LAN, also to communicate with the optional IP-1 Security Pendant to increase the security of GT-1 series.
Bluetooth enables GT-1 series to communicate with virtually any Bluetooth enabled device such as the Canon BP-80 wireless mobile printer.
Wireless LAN enables GT-1W and GT-1LW to communicate with your IT network infrastructure easily.

Laser scanner model for simple barcode input

photo: Laser scanner modelGT-1L and GT-1LW have a built in 1D laser scanner, the flexible side keys can be used as trigger keys for the operator to scan barcodes easily by simply pressing any of these keys (depending on the application design), the barcode scanner is capable of reading 10 types of barcodes including EAN, Codabar, ITF, Code39.

Equipped with two card slots for CF and miniSD cards

photo: 2 card slots for CF and miniSD cardsFor superior expandability, GT-1 series is equipped with two types of expansion slots, a CF type II primarily used for communication card like GSM/GPRS or memory storage and a miniSD for memory storage. To physically protect the protruding CF communication card, an optional CF cover slot is available.

SECURITY

Original Canon format for external media encryption to prevent information disclosure

To prevent information disclosure from the external storage cards (CF or miniSD) due to accidental loss or theft, when Card security is enabled, GT-1 series formats the external media with Canon original format. This format will not be recognized on a PC, also a card formatted on a PC will not be recognized by GT-1 series.
Files also can be protected using the encryption of the operating system.

Individual authentication with the IP-1 security pendant

IP-1 Security Pendant is a small authentication device that uses the Canon original IrDA protocol to increase the security of GT-1 series. When the authentication is set on GT-1 series to authenticate via IP-1, only the designated IP-1 device is capable to unlock GT-1 series, so in case of a lost or stolen GT-1 series device information will be protected. Up to 3 IP-1 devices can be registered to authenticate with GT-1 series and the authentication screen can be customised. Management of the authentication history is possible.
The pendant weighs only 15 g and is about 1/3 the size of a bank card. It is waterproof, shockproof, and extremely economical in power consumption, it can run for over one year on one CR battery while being switched on 50 times a day. It is an ultimate solution for the security of GT-1 series.

Passwords that can be set for the risk level and usage environment

For an increasing demand on security, in addition to IP-1 Security Pendant which is securing GT-1 series on the device level, an additional security level for starting the operating system can be set. GT-1 series can be set to request a password to start the operating system, accordingly the application will start only when the correct password is entered.

Password management with root encryption key

On GT-1 series passwords and IP-1 Information are stored into a non accessible secured location; information cannot be viewed from any external source. To increase security on CF and miniSD external storage cards, a Root Encryption Key can be set on GT-1 series. When this Root Encryption Key is set, passwords, IP-1 information, CF and miniSD card information are encrypted using this Root Encryption Key, so data cannot be read even on another GT-1 series device. If these external media are required to be accessed by other GT-1 series devices, a special tool can be used on the PC to allow this data access.

DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENT

Adopts popular operating system Windows CE 5.0

GT-1 series adopts the most commonly used Windows CE 5.0 as the operating system of the device. This allows an easy development of software applications. The standard Internet explorer is implemented as the web browser; the standard Microsoft windows CE 5.0 mailer can be implemented. In addition special tools are provided in order to make use of the device modules.

A variety of tools is provided to assist software application development

The following Microsoft software development tools for Windows® CE 5.0 can also be used: eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0JA (SP4) (a common development tool), Visual Studio 2005 (a standard development tool), ActiveSync (synchronization software). .NET Compact Framework2.0, required for managed code development, is pre-installed and set up on the GT-1. Canon's dedicated SDK for development of special applications can also be used to develop applications for GT-1 Series devices, such as screens, portable printers, communication devices, and modules.
